The building of this bridge has brought credibility to Christianity
– Being nominally Muslin, the people are by default opposed
to Christianity, but only because they are taught to be. Seeing
the workers who came to build the bridge, working hard for their
people was extremely puzzling to them. Many of them wondered why
people would come from so far away, sacrifice so much and ask
for nothing in return. When they were told it was simply because
of the love of Christ, many wanted to know more about what the
missionaries were teaching. Several attended for the first time
the small, but growing Tanda church.
•
The Tanda leaders have also now given their people permission
to adopt Christianity for themselves if they wish to without fear
of any persecution. It’s not limited to the Tanda people
either! A neighboring village, which was much more adherent to
the Muslin way sent a message to the missionaries to come to their
village. Many people were gathered to shower the missionaries
with gifts of chicken & rice as a show of appreciation for
the bridge construction. The leaders then explained to them that
if the Tanda leaders were allowing their people to embrace Christianity
then it would be all right for their people to embrace it also.
•
One of the prominent Muslin religious leaders said that he did
not know if he would go to Heaven and he wanted to find a way
that he would know for certain. He asked for a Bible and told
the people to listen to what the missionaries had to say.
FRIENDS
in Action was used to build a physical bridge but God intended
to use it to build spiritual bridges that will last for eternity.
FRIENDS is grateful to God for how He supplied the needs for this
project to make it all possible!
